THIRTY THREE

August 29, 1976...
in a little country church...
I gave my heart to the Lord.
I will never forget that night.
When I got up from the alter,
I was surrounded by the whole church body,
singing "Oh How I Love Jesus".
A load was lifted from me.
I could see with new eyes.
God's love filled my heart.
Without the Lord in my life,
I don't believe I'd be here today.
He has brought me through many hard times.
He has blessed me with many good times.
He has blessed me with a wonderful family.
He has given me special friends in blog land.
He has supplied my every need.
I praise God for His Word,
and the drawing power of the Holy Spirit.
If thou shalt confess with thy mouth
the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart
that God hath raised Him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:9
I would love to hear about your salvation experience.

Hi Shirley, I gave my heart to the Lord in March of 1967. Your Aunt Gracie Cobb is the one who knelt down and prayed with me. I had memorized Romans 10:9 and 10 in Sunday school class previous to being saved. I still have the little testament Harry Layne gave me for memorizing the verses. I am so thankful for the people at Walker Chapel Church who cared enough to teach us about God. Your precious Mother is the first Sunday school teacher I remember having. Lorene Blankenship used to pick us up and take us to Sunday School when the weather was cold, so we wouldn't have to walk. I am thankful my parents loved me enough to send me to church even though they didn't go. Praise the Lord, my Mother was saved not long before she passed away.

I don't know the exact date, early 70's. I was 9 years old. I remember standing there white knuckled, holding onto the pew, for a couple of weeks. Then finally, in tears, I made my way to the front as my Mother and Grandmother watched from the choir loft.
I am a child of God. And when things are tough, he shows me he is always there.

I believe it was January 9, 1972. We were having a revival, it lasted for weeks and there were a lot of people saved. It was standing room only every night. Margaret had come and talked to me, then went back up and they were singing "It's All Right," Carmen came toward me, and as soon as she touched me with her hand, I went to the alter. I knew I was saved with that first step, I felt light as a feather, like a load had been lifted from me.

I can't tell you the day of the week or the day of the month, I cant even tell you what month it was. I know it was in the fall of 1968. And I will never forget it.

Revival had been going on for a week or two, I had been going and had been going to the altar every night, the revival was still going on because me and another woman was still there.
I had went to the altar in previous revivals when I was young and was not saved( my fault)
When I went to church that night I knew I was going to be saved, I could not have gone home in the shape I was in.(my Dad and Uncle Doc said they knew it too)
Since I got up from the altar that night there has never been any doubt that I have been born again. For weeks it felt like I was walking on the clouds, I felt as light as a feather because all my burdens were gone. The people that I thought were hypocrites were the best people in the world. I have made many mistakes since that night but the Lord has always been there to forgive me.There are so many things that I could have done for the Lord and I didn't do but I can't go back, I just hope to do better in the future.
I always need your prayers.

I was five years old when I became a Christian. So that was around 1970.
I had had a dream about all my family going to heaven. In that dream I could not go in because I was a sinner and had never asked God to forgive my sins. Amazing how I can remember that dream like it was yesterday. So with my Mom and Dad kneeling besides my bed I asked Jesus to forgive my sin and come into my heart.
My parents were in the ministry and so we were taught the Bible. I had a hunger for knowledge from a very young age. Taught Bible studies, led accountability groups....but it was not until about 12 years ago that I really began to KNOW Him. It became a hunger that He met 100%. That is what I want to tell people about...it is the relationship that changes lives...not just a ticket to heaven.
See....you shouldn't have gotten me started ;)
